Thursday
Brian-- Brian meets Julia for the first time when she shows up at the fire station unannounced while he is in the middle of making breakfast for his guys while they shower. She helps him cook saying she can't help it when someone cooks she feels the need to help. He keeps having flashbacks to when he went to the third story of a burning building to rescue a child, which he does successfully. Julia asks him for his opinion on Anna and he doesn't see her as trying to get attention like Sara does, then he tells Julia that there is someone he wants her to meet. When he became a fire fighter he did it because he wanted to save people, but he should have been specific of which people.
Julia-- In Brian Fitzgerald's car she sees all the maps he has everywhere, the maps of the starts. Brian then explains that Anna is named after a galaxy. After Campbell had left her apartment the other night her sister came out and started nagging her about a professional relationship so she decides to go out and drink, which leads to making friends with the bartender and telling him her story. Brian and Julia drive to the house to pick up Anna to go and see Kate. Julia has a flashback to when Campbell first told her he loved her and then they slept together, she is telling this story to the bartender who calls he a train wreck of sexual history. In the present Brian, Anna, and Julia have reached the hospital and Sara doesn't want Julia to talk to Kate about the law suit since she doesn't know that Anna hasn't backed out of it, but she insists that she loves both her daughters. Julia talks to Kate anyway without mentioning what she was there for and gets Kate perspective of the family.
Sara-- It's 1996 and Kate's eighth birthday party. She got a pet goldfish for her birthday and named it Hercules. The day of her birthday shortly after her party Kate relapsed after being in remission for 5 years. Since Kate was getting sick again Sara canceled Jesse's orthodontist appointment and his plans to go buy new cleats for soccer even though she promised. Jesse then being very upset runs up to his room and pulls off his braces with a fork. Since Kate has relapsed she will need a lymphocyte infusion, meaning Anna would have to donate blood to Kate. The doctors had to draw blood from Anna three times over since they could never get enough lymphocytes the first time round. Then after all that the fish almost dies and Sara calls an oceanographer to save the goldfish.
Anna-- Anna went through a phase where she pretended Kate was dead so that if and when she really died she would be ready to cope with the grief. As Anna sits with her parents in the hospital cafeteria Vern Stackhouse, the deputy, walks up to the table and hands Sara an envelope that contained a temporary restraining order from Anna. Sara is livid with Anna for asking for such a thing even though Anna never did. In the car on the way home her parents fight about possibly hiring a real lawyer and upon showing up at the court house are met my dozens of TV cameras and reporters waiting for them. Anna then tells the ju7dge that she never wanted her mom to have to move out of the house, but she does need some space so Anna goes to stay with her father at the fire station.
Campbell-- Campbell is somewhat thrilled to see the reporters at the court house so that he can talk to them and draw attention to himself. Inside the court room Campbell is trying to get the judge to grant a restraining order against Sara Fitzgerald so that she stops harassing her daughter about the case being a misunderstanding. Once Julia arrives however she has a different opinion. She doesn't believe that the restraining order is a good thing for Anna or the family and the Judge dismisses it. Campbell leaves the court to talk to Anna only to find her gone and then Judge, the dog, starts acting up so he blows off Julia who wants to talk to him.
Jesse-- Jesse comes home from doing who knows what to find Julia sitting on his front porch. Even with his best attempts at flirting Jesse has no luck with getting Julia to go out with him. Julia then asks his opinion on the situation at had. Jesse responds with a story of a Christmas that was ruined since Kate got sick and Anna had to donate blood, so Jesse had to stay at the neighbors house. He then snuck out and chopped down a tree, put it in the house and decorated it. When his parents came home and they opened presents all of his gifts were hospital gift shop toys and his parents didn't even notice the tree. Of course its not quit the same for Anna since Anna is actually part of the plan for Kate.
Brian-- After the issue at the court with the reporters Brian takes Anna back to the fire station so she could stay with him there. Sara is upset with Brian because she thinks he isn't think enough about Kate. At the station got a call, the guys have to go to a nursing home and help an elderly woman who hit her head and Anna tags along. At the hospital with the woman, Brian is so focused on work he loses track of Anna yet finds her later curled up in Sara's lap in Kate's room.
