The wife to Brian Fitzgerald and mother of three, Kate, Jesse, and Anna Fitzgerald. Her main focus in life is to keep Kate alive as she battles leukemia. She also becomes her own attorney during the court case in which Anna sues her parents for medical emancipation.
Anna Fitzgerald
Anna is the daughter of Sara and Brian Fitzgerald. Younger sister to Kate and Jesse Fitzgerald at the age of 13. The only reason she was born was to be a genetic match for her older sister Kate, so that she could be a donor for her sister when ever she needed anything, blood, bone marrow, even a kidney. So Anna files a law suit for the rights to her own body.
Jesse Fitzgerald
Jesse is the middle child in the Fitzgerald household and the child that gets ignored the most. Even though he cares so much about his family, especially his sisters, he doesn't show it. Jesse doesn't do family time instead you will find him making moon shine, doing drugs and setting fires.
Julia Romano
She is designated to be the guardian ad litem for Anna Fitzgerald. A guardian ad litem as explained by Anna on page 23 is "a person trained to work with kids in the family court, who determines what's in the child's best interest." Julia also used to date Campbell Alexander in high school and hasn't talked to him in 15 years, nor has she dated anyone since and now she is working with him on Anna's case.
Izzy Romano
Julia Romano's twin sister who tries to tell Julia what she should and shouldn't do in concerns of her love life.
Brian Fitzgerald
Husband of Sara Fitzgerald and father of three, Kate, Jesse, and Anna Fitzgerald. Brian is a firefighter and spends most of his time either at the station or at the hospital with Kate. He is more reserved and tends not to voice his opinions and lets his wife take charge.
Kate Fitzgerald
Kate is the oldest sister in the Fitzgerald household. She has leukemia-APL and has had it since she was about 4, she's 16 now. The entire family revolves around Kate and her sickness causing her siblings to be pushed into the shadows.
Campbell Alexander
Campbell is Anna's lawyer as well as Julia Romano's love interest. He will also never be found far from Judge, his service dog.
Judge DeSalvo
DeSalvo is the judge for Anna's case and has experience with losing a child, which could influence his decision at the end of the case. His daughter was killed by a drunk driver at the age of twelve, so with Anna winning this case meaning the death of her sister Kate what will he decide?
Taylor Ambrose
Taylor is a boy that comes into Kate's life and makes it so much better. Like Kate he too has cancer, but his is of a different kind, he has AML.
Zanne
Sara Fitzgerald's older sister who sometimes comes down to watch the kids when something huge is going on with Kate medically. She also has quiet a bit of money and often tries to pay for some of Kate's medical bills.
