Jesse-- Jesse again has done something reckless. This time he stole a dump truck and heads to pick up Dan, a homeless man who watches Jesse's stuff, before heading out to burn a shed. While driving he is looking back to the time when Kate got a serious nose bleed and Jesse was again looked over even though his dad made him a promise to go skate boarding. When arriving at the shed Jesse proceeds to light it on fire, only to have Dan tell him that another homeless man named Rat lived there. Jesse ran into the burning shack and dragged Rat out and ran away right as the fire trucks arrived.
Anna-- Kate is in the last stages of renal failure and Sara and Anna are at the hospital with her she only has about a week left. When Sara hears this she starts to cry and Anna asks her to stop so Sara being sad snaps back and tells her stop. Anna goes back to the fire station and sits with Julia talking about Kyle the boy she likes and what it will be like when Kate dies. After a stressful day Anna heads up to the roof of the fire station with her dad and looks at the stars.
Brian-- Brian goes to talk to Sara about the case at the hospital. When he arrives Sara wants to know where Anna is, but Brian asks her if she remembers the fortune teller they went to one time in Nevada. The teller said Sara's life would not be good enough and that Brian should save himself. In the hospital room Brian told Sara that he would be speaking on Anna's behalf so she could win the case. His marriage with Sara wasn't what it used to be neither of them were the same people anymore.
Sara-- 2001, Anna has started playing hockey and asks her parents if she mowed the lawn for the rest of her life could she have over $600 dollars for goal keeping gear. It has also been four years since Kate's bone marrow transplant and she relapses again. Kate's body is failing her and she slips into a coma, Brian wants to bring her home and let her die in her own bed since he feels like there is nothing else that can be done or should be done since Kate is doing so poorly. Sara is angry that Brian is giving up, but at the same time she knows its almost time. During this time Anna asks her mom if she could go to hockey camp and Sara immediately says no since Kate is so sick, but the camp is a year away and there is the possibility that Kate will not be living then. The family goes and says their goodbyes to Kate, but eve though Sara said Kate can let go she claws her way to recovery.
Anna-- With the high possibility of Kate's death, Anna ponders what it would be like in Heaven and what age people would be. Would they get to pick or would they just be in their prime? And how will people recognize each other if people will look different. Sara Fitzgerald, Anna's mother, calls a meeting at Campbell's office in attempt to come to an agreement. The agreement being that if Anna donates a kidney to Kate and it doesn't work then she will never ask Anna to do anything else for her sister ever again. Anna turns down the offer and sticks with the law suit.
Julia-- Izzy, Julia's sister doesn't like or trust Campbell since he broke her sisters heart all those years ago. She is defiantly not thrilled to hear that Julia still likes Campbell. As if a cue Campbell shows up at the door asking Julia to go to dinner with him to discus the bargain Sara Fitzgerald tried to make. His dinner however turned out to be a picnic on a sail boat which lead to Campbell and Julia kissing again for the first time in fifteen years.
